The Stone April-June 2022 Newsletter

AMessage from Mark McGarvey

It seems as though we are fly- ing into the second quarter of 2022. The first quarter was a mighty blur of member activity, and no real let-up is expected for the second. I know everyone is excited about the prospect of warmer temperatures. As I write this newsletter, the outside air temperature is 34 degrees.

For golfers, a golf simulator will be available in the club- house. This additional offering has access to 230 golf courses, including Greystone’s. You will call the golf shop and set up a tee time just like you do to play on the course. The upstairs will experience a freshening up. Since the lock- ers downstairs will no longer be available for those wanting to maintain one, you will have the opportunity to move yours upstairs. The Legacy golf course will undergo a needed refurbishing. The greens, currently bentgrass, will be replaced with TifEagle Bermuda grass. All of the tees will be laser leveled and sodded with new TifGrand grass. #9 tee will be a complete reconstruction of the tee box to expand and improve that tee and surrounding area. The sand traps are being redone with the Better Billy Bunker system for better playability in general. Overall, the total bunker square footage across the course will be 20% less. You can view the plans on the "Resources" page of the member website. The Legacy expansion starts on June 1st and is scheduled for completion at the beginning of October. This is subject to outside our control items, such as weather and supply chains, but we feel this is a solid finish date. In last quarter’s newsletter, I announced the introduction of Greystone University for Members. I am reintroducing a new start date of June 1st. This class will run on Wednesday evening for six weeks, from June 1st to July 6th. If you want to know about your Club in areas of finance, governance, and operations, you will sign up. As a member, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about your Club. It is a fascinating journey. And lastly, next month you will notice some changes around the golf courses. The starters will be going through how we should treat our course. A sign will be present on the first tee reminding everyone that we need to treat our facilities with care. There will be reminders on the GPS to rake the bunkers, fix ball marks and help reduce the amount of trash, cigarette butts, and other litter on the course.

Lakeside Activity Center – The creation of member amenities adds new territory for members to meet, greet, and compete if they desire. Our four Pickleball courts will be completed soon. Paddles and balls are available at the front desk (and at the pool once it opens) for those newbies to the game. A basketball court is there for the NBA aspirers to remember how or why they go to work every day or enjoy a friendly game of horse with friends. The lake will be stocked with bass and bluegill for those wanting to catch dinner. There will also be two paddle boats available for cruises around the lake. The pool will soon have the third slide for children under 48 inches to use (with parental supervision). In addition, the bathrooms are being upgraded, along with adding 2 unisex changing rooms with showers. This remodel has long been needed and will be a great compliment to the current plan. A final addition is the expansion of the pool deck. Currently, the pool parking lot can park about 25 cars. After Regions, the upper parking lot at the tennis courts, which is unusable now, will be expanded and resurfaced. The new walkway adjacent to the Tennis courts will make travel to the Lakeside Activity Center or pool area a nice walk, bike ride, or stroller ride with the kids. Legacy Expansion – There are lots of interest and questions about the summer project at Legacy. The clubhouse will undergo a radical change in footprint, services, and usability. The Club will now offer three distinctive dining areas: the adult grill, mixed grill, and fine dining (Amici’s). Outdoor space will be expanded by 30%with two additional fire pits. There will also be an indoor bar that seats ten and an outdoor bar that seats fifteen.

That’s it for the second quarter.
