GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Dear Members, We have so many exciting things happening at the Club. The buzz around the Regions Tradition is growing every day. We have added many new aspects for member enjoyment. There is a new VIP member area with access to private viewing on #9 green. A fourth concert was added on the Founders Patio, which is the addition of Wednesday night featuring Taylor Hicks. We have changed the food and beverage options to be more like an upscale concession stand with a la carte pricing and several options. Not only will there be amazing golf with some of the world’s best players, but we will have the best five-day party in Birmingham. We have some amazing events coming up during May and June at the Club. • Mother’s Day Brunch & Dinner Buffet Sunday, May 13 • Men’s Member/Member June 8-10 • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Children’s Breakfast Saturday, June 9 • Summer Camp weeks 1 and 2 June 11-15 and 18-22 • Silver Oak Wine Dinner on Wednesday June 13 • Father’s Day Brunch and Steak Dinner Sunday, June 17 • Shrimp Boil & Wimbledon on the Range Saturday, June 21 Financial results after the first quarter are positive and membership numbers are stable. Through the first quarter of 2018, revenues are $23,000 below plan and expenses are $40,000 below plan resulting in a $17,000 positive variance to budget. Membership is budgeted at a flat 580 Golf Equivalent Members (GEMs) for the year and we have been at 582 for the first quarter. Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to read the first quarter financial report.
We are kicking off a new membership incentive program called “Hey Neighbor.” The program is designed for members to bring in neighbors and friends to the Club. We are in good financial condition, but we would be in even better shape with 100+ more GEMs. Additional revenue will allow us to accelerate capital replacement projects and pay down debt at a faster pace. The Swimming Pool Project is complete, and we are very pleased with the results. There were so many important phases to it, such as chipping away all the old plaster and patching concrete, replastering the entire family pool, adding new water line tile, adding new coping, installing new railings, mounting a new diving board, working on safety and aesthetic improvements, replacing equipment and electric wiring, and painting the building. Significant landscaping is underway. In the coming months we will be unveiling a Member Anniversary Program. We will start honoring members reaching 5-year increment tenure awards (5,10, 15, 20, 25, etc.). There will be public notification and gifts from the club given to the recipients. We are working out the details of where to start and how to ensure past milestones are recognized and celebrated. Dalton Gillilan has been promoted to Fitness Director. He was chosen over several highly qualified candidates. His humbleness, connection with the members, experience, willingness to learn, obvious passion, and excitement to make Greystone the best pushed him over the top for the position. I hope you are enjoying the Club and I look forward to seeing you around the Club. Best Regards, Dave Porter General Manager
