A MESSAGE FROM Mark McGarvey What a great time of year. This newsletter is for the third quarter of 2022, yet the year feels like it has only just begun. Oh well, summer is upon us. Greystone is bursting with activity in all areas. The Regions Tradition was a rousing success for many reasons: the crowds, the weather, an ex tremely well-run tournament, and a Champion in Steve Stricker, of whom everyone is proud. The contract extension between the PGA, the Bruno Event team, and Greystone until 2032 will mean so much to Greystone, Birmingham, and the State of Alabama. Lakeside Activity Center – This newly completed area is a beautifully functional as set for member activity. We now have tennis, pickleball, basketball, family, and adult pool available, all of which are easily accessible. The pool area has new changing rooms and updated bathrooms. By the time you read this, all the slides will be installed and functional. Legacy – As we all know, the clubhouse and the golf course are shut down for renovation until October 1st. The clubhouse renovation is a product of the member survey where so many members thought it should be more usable, larger, and versatile. The golf course is over 20 years old, and it was time. Last year, we almost lost the greens. Resurfacing the greens and moving to a much more durable warm weather grass like TifEagle Bermuda will be a vast improvement. Everyone knows that scheduling tee times will be a challenge for the Founders only. Professor Steve Smith has already sent out notifications on how some of the necessary changes will work as we move through this timeframe. The team is also working on local clubs that will allow our members a tee time. Steve Smith over sees handling and coordinating this activity. The team is also working on some overnight venues, i.e., Reynolds Plantation, Old Waverly, and a trip to Atlanta. More on this later. Also being considered are day trips to venues like The Ledges, Pursell Farms and Turtle Point. In the last newsletter, we reintroduced the new Greystone University for Members, which started in June. It has a full class of 36 participants; the second session will be starting on September 7th. Registration is now open for the second session. These classes will give the member broad-based knowledge about many aspects of Greystone. It will cover but is not limited to, Club history and governance, Board and committees, Employees, department overviews and tours of the entire facility, financials, and the vision-mission concept. As a final thought about the Legacy renovation, many courses with only one clubhouse and one course shut down entirely during renovation. We have examples of this in our neighbor clubs such as Vestavia, Old Over ton, Shoal Creek, and Riverchase. We will get through this period together by utilizing our club on a modified schedule. Each of us can help make this a better experience as the end of September is just around the corner.

Well, that’s it for the third quarter!

Mark McGarvey, President Greystone Golf and Country Club

A MESSAGE FROM Dave Porter

Dear Members,

I hope you are having a great summer and enjoying the Club to its fullest.

After one month of operating with just the Founders facility available to members, I need to thank all of you for your patience and positive attitude. It will be October, before you know it, and everyone will be enjoying the new golf course and Clubhouse at Legacy. We have completed some positive changes at the Aquatics facility. Two changing rooms have been added, bathrooms upgraded, and a new small slide in place. We have added cameras to the basketball and pickleball area for member safety and vandalism. With the summer heat in June, we found the stress point on our aging HVAC system at Founders. We have begun taking units off our water-cooling tower to install split systems (like you have at your home). The Main Dining Room and Cellar bar area have been replaced, and both kitchens are now planned. In 2023 and 2024, we will complete the transition away from the cooling tower system. During the month of July, we will be painting the exterior of the Founders Clubhouse and building storage for all the dining chairs and folding tables you see stored around the Club. Also, another storage space will be built off the Cellar patio for cushions, umbrellas, and heaters. The maintenance team is working on several other details to maintain Greystone at a high level. We have a nice project in the works for early 2023, expanding and repaving the upper parking lot at founders (adjacent to the two tennis courts). This project will include installing a new stone retaining wall to replace the rotted railroad ties. New sidewalks and connecting landscape with a covered viewing platform for tennis will all be part of this improvement. We are always working on new ways to communicate with you to get the fullest experience at the Club. We will begin texting information regularly, which you can opt out of on receipt of a text. In July, we will start a Greystone Podcast with interviews with staff, members, and outside professionals working with us. Our goal is to keep infor mation flowing to keep members informed. The two projects at Legacy are monumental for Greystone, and keeping you part of the process is very important to us. Jason will be updating a weekly blog with photos on our website and creating a video update emailed to you every other week. For the Clubhouse, you will receive a video update every other week until completion. Jason and I have begun the irrigation planning with our designer, Erik Christiansen of EC Design Group. The de sign will be complete by the end of September and out for bid in October. The installation of the new irrigation for Founders is slated to begin in June 2023. Irrigation installation should only close the course completely for a couple of weeks and then 1 to 2 holes at a time. This will be an incredible improvement for the playing conditions of the golf course. Please check out this issue for some of the incredible social and sports programs and events cre ated by our team.

I look forward to seeing you around the Club soon.

Best, Dave
