President's Message
Dear Members, As I begin writing this newsletter, I’m struck by the feeling that each time I’ve written one my first thought is “This is my favorite time of year at Greystone”. Turns out… it’s always a great time of year at Greystone! I’m so grateful to have this wonderful place and the warm and welcoming members and staff to make me feel I “belong” here. That’s exactly the way it should feel for everyone. The end of the year means mild weather, perfect for golf, tennis and enjoying all of the special holiday events we have planned. Chef’s Dinner, Wild Game Beer Dinner, Thanksgiving Brunch, the famous Holiday Open House, Santa Brunches, Dickens Dinners, Christmas and New Year’s events. It’s literally magical at Greystone at the end of our year. PLEASE look at the full calendar of events and make your plans to attend. Even better, bring friends to these events and encourage them to become members at Greystone. Serving as your president has been not only an honor, it has been eye opening. The complexity of operating a club of this magnitude is immense. Our General Manager, department heads, and every single staff member do an extraordinary job of making Greystone a first-class experience. I hope you thank them every chance you get. They all have my sincerest gratitude. But, if we want our club to thrive, there are only two ways to accomplish it. Use your club in as many aspects as possible, as often as possible, and most importantly, invite your friends and neighbors to join Greystone. Our value proposition is second to none. Looking forward to the
You can hear more about our plans and stay informed about the health of our club by attending the Annual Membership meeting on November 21st. We’ll share financial updates, capital plans for 2020, and share the results of the Board elections. I urge you to join me for this one. I cannot end the year without offering my most sincere thanks to everyone who gives of their time to make Greystone a better club for all of us. First, to all of our committee members and especially our committee chairs, Andy Schroeder (Golf), Candler Boyd (Membership Marketing), Mike McNulty (Sports & Social), Steve Vanderburg (Member Engagement), Ron Stanfa (Regions Tradition). Next, I want to thank Lane Milam, our outgoing chairman. Lane has guided me for the past two years and has lent his wisdom and experience to me as President-Elect and then through my presidency. He has served as board member and officer for many years and he deserves all of our gratitude. Thanks also to our incoming president, Janice Folmar. Aside from making history as the first woman to serve as club president, her job as President -Elect is a demanding one, and she has embraced every responsibility like a pro. She is prepared to take the helm and I will offer my help and guidance whenever needed. She’s an amazing person and a selfless servant, which is a quality I believe is most important in this position. Further, to the board of directors whom I’ve had the privilege of serving beside, they too exhibit the kind of selfless servant’s heart that we need in our leadership. It has been enriching to work with such an amazing and talented group. We all love Greystone and I hope it has been evident. Lastly, to you, the members of this phenomenal club, it has been my honor to serve as your president. You have treated me with kindness and respect, but I’ll remember most those of you who have offered ideas when you had complaints, help when you had criticism, encouragement, warmth and friendship. You have made my experience here much richer. I’ve come to know so many of you that I didn’t know before. It confirms what I’ve known from the moment I joined this club 20 years ago, the members of Greystone are a collection of amazing individuals and families. Loving, caring, competitive and fun. What a great place to BELONG. I hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for making my year unforgettable. Matt Scalici Club President, 2019
coming year, we have exciting changes and upgrades to our club including major work at our tennis facility, new dining options, and continued improvements to the clubhouse, pool and fitness programs. You’ll not only be helping the club to grow, you’ll be insuring that your own cost of membership will remain stable.

General Manager's Message
Dear Members, I hope you are having a great fall season and enjoying all the Club has to offer. The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are upon us and the staff has planned many exciting events. Reservations are now open for all of the events through the balance of 2019.
Membership Growth will be our major focus again in 2020. Members bringing in members is the key to our success. You are the best source of prospective members. We are in good shape, breaking even annually as planned, accomplishing many capital replacement projects and beginning a capital reserve. Growing the membership will keep your dues from increasing and will allow for enhanced services and amenities. Please don’t forget three of our services that began this year; our Lawn Care Service headed by Chad Burke is going well. If you are a resident of Greystone and would like to explore the Club taking care of your yard maintenance, please contact Chad at lawncare@greystonecc.com. We have also begun pizza delivery inside the gates and recently added salads and wings. The hours of delivery expanded to include Saturday during the day and Sundays. The schedule is Wednesday through Friday 5-9, Saturday 12-9 and Sundays 12-6. Lastly, we have added food ordering on the courses from your golf cart. Place your order using the GPS screen at 9 tee and your food and drink(s) will be ready when you make the turn. I hope you have been able to enjoy these additions.
We are working on finalizing the 2020 budget and several new programs and services for next year. At this point, I can share with you that the dining options will be expanded, and this information will be shared separately as the plans are approved. Our major focus for capital spending in 2020 will be at the tennis complex, inclusive of the refurbishment of all courts and significant improvements to the physical plant of the building. The enhancements will allow for better viewing of the courts and increased social interaction. Greystone University continues making a difference. We have 14 employees enrolled in our current class, which is ready to begin section two of four. They are scheduled to graduate by the end of February. The team that is in the class is very enthusiastic and filled with excellent staff members.
All my best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season. I look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Best regards,
Dave Porter General Manager

BRINGING GENERATIONS TOGETHER EXTENDING MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS TO YOUR GROWING FAMILY A s you may know, Member’s children enjoy Club privileges though their parent’s membership until they turn 26 or get married – whichever comes first. Beyond this point, they are removed from your account and con- sidered family guests, with limited access. Our hope is that they return to the Club one day to continue the family traditions they experienced growing up with families of their own. There are three ways to carry on your family’s legacy at Greystone:
GIFTING: Through our Gifting Program, an Equity Member with redemption rights may bestow the Gift of Membership to a family member (includes parents, brothers, sisters, children, legally adopted stepchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles or aunts of the Member or spouse) who pays no initiation fee. The Equity Member providing the gift remains a Club Member with all other equity rights intact, minus redemption. Note: The Gifting Option applies only to Regular Members who joined before October 1, 2012. JUNIOR LEGACY MEMBERSHIP: For Equity Members who don’t want to forfeit their future redemption, or for those with multiple children, the Junior Legacy Membership is a great option to consider. An Equity Member’s sons, daughters, legally adopted stepchildren or grandchildren ages 23-34 may join and receive a one-year deferral on their initiation fee. While the Gifting Program allows for only one family member to join, this option benefits all of your children and grandchildren. LEGACY TRANSFER: When an Equity Member is ready to exit the Club, they may elect to transfer his or her membership to a son, daughter, legally adopted stepson or stepdaughter or any grandchild 23 years of age or older. Upon acceptance, The Equity Member’s membership transfers to the designated child with the payment of a transfer fee (currently $1,000), but no initiation fee. If they are under 35 years of age, they will be eligible for ½ the dues of a Regular Member until their 35th birthday.
Should you wish to get a membership package for a family member, please contact Ashley Devine in the Membership Office: adevine@greystonecc.com or (205) 986-5146.

GREYSTONE EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTS
JEORDON DUDLEY GREYSTONE’S PERSONAL TRAINER Jeordon has been with the Club since June 2018. He is among the first to graduate from our Greystone University program, and also serves on the Club’s Employee Roundtable. Growing up, Jeordon wanted to be a superhero. As he grew older, he decided that being a fireman or a police officer were more realistic aspirations. Ultimately, he always knew he wanted to help people. Helping members reach their fitness goals is Jeordon’s favorite part about working at Greystone, along with getting to know Greystone’s members and associates. Jeordon is from Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama where he played on the Men’s Rugby Team. He obtained a degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology. Jeordon joined the Physiology Club at Alabama and began training UA’s faculty and staff. This is where he discovered his passion for exercise science. What you may not know about Jeordon: He loves eating, traveling and dancing. The only foods he does not like are black olives, mushrooms, and coconut. His favorite place he has visited is Muscle Beach in California. Jeordon has played all sports except for swimming, hockey and golf. His UA Rugby coach created a play called “Smoke” named after Jeordon because he is so fast.
ALLI SLOAN OUR CLUB’S GRAPHIC DESIGNER
KAT ARREDONDO OUR RESIDENT PASTRY CHEF
Alli has served in the role of graphic designer at Greystone for the past 3 years. She also was among the first to graduate from our Greystone University program. Alli is from Madison, AL and attended the University of Alabama. There she obtained a double major in Graphic Design and Advertising. Alli always knew she wanted to have a career in the arts. As a child, she wanted to be a movie director and later, an art director. Alli still loves art and crafting in her free time. She does some freelance but really enjoys crafting personalized gifts for her friends and family. In addition to creating in her free time, Alli loves traveling and recently spent over a month abroad in Europe! She also enjoys spending time with her friends at local breweries, playing with her dog Leia, and watching Alabama football – Roll Tide! What you may not know about Alli: Her favorite thing she has created is an abstract steel bike rack made in a sculpture class at Alabama. You can see her bike rack in Downtown Tuscaloosa next time you’re there at the corner of 4th and 23rd!
Kat has served in the role of pastry chef at Greystone for almost two years. She also was among the first to graduate from our Greystone University program. Kat calls South Carolina home and is a huge Clemson fan! She moved to Alabama in 2004. Kat’s career in the culinary arts started at the Continental Bakery dough room here in Birmingham back in 2005. Kat attended culinary school at Culinard Virginia College and graduated in 2007. She first started cooking with her mother and both grandmothers, who never let her leave the kitchen. Her “mama” loved baking and inspired Kat to pursue pastry as a specialty. It is a special treat in her family that on your birthday you get to eat dessert first! What you may not know about Kat: She loves yoga and is an only child. Her happy place is the beach, especially Carolina beaches! She has an adorable husky mix named Pepper.
