PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
greystone golf and country club newsletter
Dear Members, The start of a new year creates a sense of excitement and expectation for what will come in 2017. I look forward to spending many hours with each of you at the club. Under the leadership of the Board and Mr. Porter with our management team, 2016 was an exciting year of growth, progress and learning for Greystone Golf & Country Club. Efforts by numerous members and the hardworking staff led us to 880 members, first class fitness programs, a rejuvenated food and beverage program, a growing tennis program, championship level golf courses and countless tournaments and member events. The Regions Traditions Champions Tour golf tournament returns to Greystone Founders Course May 17-21, 2017. The tournament is one of the Tour’s five majors and represents a wonderful opportunity for our club. The Regions Tradition is an irreplaceable opportunity that brings prestige and pro- vides a financial impact to Greystone. Our continued member support and participation is key to retaining the tournament and contributions to Children’s of Alabama and various other Alabama charities. Our club leadership continues to strive for zero based bud- geting, financial stability and to manage the club’s expenses within our expected revenues. For instance, there was no dues enhancement in 2017. However, there is still much work left to increase our capital funds. We have many deferred mainte- nance and improvement items that we must address. The Start of the new Year
Every month, each of us make a financial investment in our club. I am now encouraging each of you to make a social invest- ment by expanding your use of the club, meeting all the new members and enjoying all the programs and events staged by our management team. The best thing you can do as a member to advance our club is to use the club often with your family, your guests and with other members and their spouses. We cannot improve without the efforts of our many volun- teer committee members. We look forward to gaining input from our five 2017 committees: Finance, Membership Market- ing & Communications, Golf, Sports & Social and Membership Engagement. Thank you to the thirty devoted members who volunteered to serve on these important committees. Finally, thank you to all 2016 committee members who helped shape Greystone for the future. In closing, I want to personally thank Terry Smith for his ex- tensive time and effort behind the scenes in 2016. In addition to leading us to arguably the best year ever at Greystone, he spent much time making sure that I was informed and ready for the challenges and opportunities we face in 2017. I encourage each of you to attend the President Dinner on Saturday, January 21st at 6:30pm, Founders Clubhouse to acknowledge his dedication. I look forward to seeing you soon.

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE
january & february 2017
Join a CLub Within Your CLub Members will be able to sign up for pre-planned local, regional, national and international Golf Trips. We will also organize tennis trips to events like the Family Circle, U.S. Open and possibly Wimbledon. Michael is working on an exclusive trip to Napa for Wine Club members as well. Dear Members, Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. We had a great December at the Club with several events for the members that were successful. We have so many great things planned for 2017.
Once we have a period of acquiring interest we will begin scheduling a kick off meeting and activities. Within a few months, we would like to find a Chair and Vice Chair of each club to serve for a year with the natural progression of the Vice Chair moving up the following year. The clubs are designed to be operated by the members with support from the Club for communi- cation, meeting space, etc. In January, we will finally begin Pizza Delivery to mem- bers living within the gates of Greystone with plans to ex- pand the delivery area to in- clude communities on Hugh Daniel and Brook Highland. Specific announcements will be forthcoming. We have made several improvements to Cellar 91 over the last few months, including improved service, new menu, faster ticket times and quality food. We are still not perfect, buteachvisit shouldshowmore consistency to our goal of being your first choice in dining.
Starting in January we will be offering daily Happy Hour from 5-6PM. On Fri- days & Saturdays Happy Hour will also be from 9-10PM. Wine Down Wednesdays with complimentary wine and cheese tastings and Acous- tic Friday with $5 appetizers will continue. Please let us know if you have a birthday or anniversary in your reservation so we can make it special for you and your guests. There are so many fun events lined up for January and February, but a few you do not want to miss are the President’s Dinner on Saturday, January 21st honoring Terry Smith, Comedy Night on Saturday, January 28th and the Mardi Gras Celebration on Saturday, February 25th. I look forward to seeing you around the Club soon. Best regards,
Join an interest group and meet fellow members who share a common hobby. Participation is open to all mem- bers and their spouses. H appy New Year! Greystone Performance Center offers the perfect environment to work on your golf game during the cold winter months. In an effort to develop your golf game during the cool weather, the Blackburn Golf Team has developed some new programs for the 2017 “Off Season” which are sure to make this season your best yet! Our Annual Golf Evaluation is a great way to start the new year. Much like those new year resolutions to get in shape at the gym, it requires an initial assessment to develop a training plan. Our annual golf eval- uation will develop and implement a custom coaching program for your game. This is the same approach we use with our collegiate and professional clients to improve their performance. While the weather may indicate otherwise, the 2017 Golf season is only 90 days away! We are blessed that our
At the elite level, the biggest correlation to a golfer’s world ranking is driving distanced. Similarly, the biggest correlator to handicap index is also driving distance. At the elite level there is a new statistical analysis system used to assess a golfers proficiency in scoring called strokes gained. It’s no surprise then that leaders in strokes gained off the tee are the likes of Dustin Johnson, Rory Mclroy and Bubba Watson. The two biggest contributors to driving distance are impact location & centerdness of hit and ball speed. While technique can help with improving the impaction location & centerdness of hit, ball speed is primarily based on clubspeed. Improving your clubspeed will increase your distance and theoretically lower your scoring average based on all the statiscal data we have. To help develop more speed we are offering an 8 week Speed Program. By utilizing the same over and under training principles pitching coach Tom House uses with major league
ball players and now NFL quaterbacks, we will help you increase your club speed. The program has a proven track record and candramatically help you lower your scores in 2017. Our ladies program continues to grow under Liz’s direction. To sustain that growth we are offering a Ladies weekly win- ter drop in clinic and custom- ized personalized coaching programs through the winter. To discuss any of our program please feel free to call us at the Performance Center anytime at 205-986-5152. If you haven’t visited the Performance Center please join us on Saturday January 14th when we will be hosting an open house from noon through three o’clock. We will showcase all our winter coaching programs and new Taylor Made M series drivers! We look forward to helping you with your game soon.
